Hi!
My name is Trev, and I bought my 1.8t GTI in August 2001. After a ride in a friends 1.8 standard, I was sold on a Golf. Having owned a Ford, Opel, Toyota, and now a VW, I can honestly say that the GTI is truly a legend. As a school boy, I can remember watching in awe as the local 'rich boys' zoomed past me in their hotted up MK1 GTis.Now I know what everyone else feels like, when I cruise by. Although my RXi looked good, still something was missing...

Enter the Mk2 2.0 16v, and thats when I knew the legend would live on forever. Back then every respectable GTi sported a pair of 12" subs, lowered suspension, and a babe in the passenger seat. My, how I miss those days...

Then came the Mk3 Gti, which to be honest, was a bit of a disappointment, 'cos those damn 200is Opel Kadetts gave us a good run for our money. Lucky enough, along came the Very Rabid 6 Cyclinder (VR6), and boy was that a blessed addition.. ( R.I.P 200is >:)

Six years later, the GTI Mk4 was the only ride to be awarded the Car Magazine S.A (Aug '99 edition) 5 Star (*****) rating, a feat not even achieved by the BMW M3 (including E46). This magazine has been in circulation for at least the last 25 years. All I can say, is that my GTI is the best investment I ever made... ( Yes, even better than my Kung-Fu shoes :)

After two months I decided to do the following performance mods:

- KingDragon performance filter
- Chip remapping
- CAT removal

My stock specs at the flywheel were:

Power: 104kW@5411 rpm
Torque: 212Nm@3209 rpm

With my first chip, specs were:

Power: 137kW@4308 rpm
Torque: 328Nm@3440 rpm

Two months later, I made a few adjustments to the following tune:

Power: 144kW@5603 rpm
Torque: 311Nm@2970 rpm
To cut to the chase. this is what my dyno looked like back then :

It was after the first CHIPping, that I was introduced to those annoying critters called 'Surging' and 'Pinging'... Hence some adjustments were made to reduce their effects.

My interior is stock except for the 5 disc Front Loader, 'cos I love those tunes...
